Melaka State Emblem
There are five colours in the Melaka State Emblem; red, blue, yellow, green and brown. The five keris in the state emblem symbolises the five prominent Malay warriors during the Melaka Sultanate, Hang Tuah, Hang Jebat, Hang Kasturi, Hang Lekir and Hang Lekiu. The yellow crescent and star in the centre indicate that Islam is the official religion of Melaka.

The tree and two mouse deers flanked on the sides symbolise the history of the founding of the Melaka Sultanate. Parameswara, the founder of Melaka, witnessed the battle between the mouse deer and his hunting dog while resting under the Melaka tree. He was fascinated by the strength and intelligence of the little mouse deer. Though small in size, the mouse deer was witty and managed to overcome a dog that was bigger than itself. After witnessing the event, Parameswara finally took the decision to set up a base in that place and to name the state Melaka, after the tree which he rested under.
