Hang Jebat Mausoleum

When Hang Tuah was sentenced to death, Hang Jebat became distraught and went uncontrolled in the palace. He threatened anyone who attempted to protect Sultan Mansor Shah, the one who ordered the killing. No one realised Tun Perak had actually hidden HangTuah.

The truth was finally revealed when the Sultan decided to forgive Hang Tuah. When Hang Tuah returned from the woods, he was given the task of killing Hang Jebat. He was appalled by the prospect of murdering his sworn brother. He did, however, tell him that he had no choice but to execute him because the Sultan had given him a direct command. The battle was believed to last three days until Hang Jebat was stabbed and died in the arms of his companion. The tomb itself is of Acehnese design and is of the type generally used to designate the burial locations of the time's senior ministers or Sultans, implying that Hang Jebat was a real person buried here. The age of the grave is unknown, however it predates the Portuguese takeover of 1512.

Hang Kasturi Mausoleum

This is the traditional tomb of Hang Kasturi, a high-ranking Malay warrior under Sultan Mansor Shah's rule (r. 1456-77). He is one of the five sworn-brothers whose life was entangled with Hang Jebat.

Hang Kasturi is one of the five great warrior brothers, Hang Jebat, Hang Tuah, Hang Lekir and Hang Lekiu. The five brothers were great warriors during the reign of the Melaka Sultanate, particularly during the reign of Sultan Mansur Shah (1456-1477). Their bravery and power, and the wisdom of the Bendahara Tun Perak, enabled the Melaka Sultanate to extend the Melaka Empire as far as the Malay Archipelago, and thus the empire retained reverence among friends and foes.

Hang Tuah Mausoleum

Melaka will not be complete without getting to know and honour one of the legendary heroes of Melaka and, in fact, one of Malaysia's all-time heroes – Hang Tuah. The architecture of the Hang Tuah Mausoleum represents the elements of South India.

Hang Tuah is synonymous to Melaka and is famed for his courage and loyalty to the Sultan. His impressive performance as a military officer (admiral) has made him a legend that has graced the history of Melaka. His heroic act attracted the attention of the Sultan, and he was called to the palace and awarded a knighthood, the youngest ever to be knighted.

Kota A’ Famosa

Also known as Porta de Santiago which means The Famous; Kota A’ Famosa is a Portuguese fortress located in the town of Melaka. This is the best proof of Portuguese occupation hundreds of years ago. Located at the foot of St. Paul's Hill, it was built in 1512 under the order of Alfonso de Albuquerque.

Bukit Cina Cemetery

Bukit Cina is the largest Chinese cemetery outside of mainland China. Bukit Cina is located southeast of the town of Melaka, approximately 148 metres above sea level and covers an area of 42 hectares.

There are more than 12,500 graves throughout Bukit Cina, including about 20 Muslim graves. Graves found here date back to the late Ming dynasty (mid-17th century). The oldest grave discovered so far dates back to 1622, but sadly several tombs were exhumed during the British occupation of Malaysia. The weather had taken a heavy toll on the graves, and Cheng Hoon Teng Temple had begun to rebuild it in 1933. To mark it, a stone inscription was erected. The tomb was rebuilt again in 2001.

Christ Church

The church is painted in red, which was the symbol of Melaka 's Dutch-era buildings. Surrounded by stunning landscape, tourists are likely to feel like visiting a retro church somewhere in Europe. Christ Church Melaka is now part of the Anglican Church, which Christ Church handed over to the British and consecrated to serve Anglicans from 1838 to the present day.

Admiral Cheng Ho Gallery

The gallery was inspired by the distinguished Chinese traveller, Admiral Cheng Ho, who was born in 1371 in Hodai Village, Yunnan Province. This gallery depicts the history of his journeys and accomplishments in establishing diplomatic relations and commercial links between China and the Asian and African countries. Archives on show include porcelain, ship models, books and papers about this great explorer.

Queen Victoria’s Fountain

The Queen Victoria Fountain was constructed in 1901 by the British to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee of Her Majesty. It is possibly one of the last remnants of the British colonial period in Malaysia that symbolises the glory days of British colonialism in the past. Made of English marble, Queen Victoria's Fountain still works well today and is considered to be one of the most frequently photographed landmarks in Melaka.

The Sultanate Palace

The Sultanate Palace is a replica of Sultan Mansur Shah's original wooden palace, which would have been the ruler of Malacca from 1456 to 1477. The house has since been converted into a cultural museum with lovely gardens on either side, and what makes the structure even more stunning is that it was constructed without the use of nails.

St. John’s Fort

The fort was built by the Dutch in the 18th century. The fort, which was once a private chapel, now stands atop a hill in all its splendour. Tropical sunsets, a sense of history reflected in details like the cannons facing the inland rather than the sea, and a sense of the past combine to make this an unforgettable experience.

Walk around Stadthuys

The crimson façade of Stadthuys, one of Malacca's most well-known attractions, will quickly draw your attention.The structure, which originates from 1650 and is designed after the Stadhuis or town hall in Hoorn, the Netherlands, is the oldest of its kind built during the Dutch colonial period. The History & Ethnography Museum used to be the local town hall and governor's residence, but it is now the History & Ethnography Museum.
